Electric cars are less harmful to the environment due to their zero emission rate. If everyone had an electric car, greenhouse gases would be drastically reduced, the ozone layer would remain intact, conservation of fossil fuels would occur enabling current supplies to last far longer, and the environment would even be less noisy and more comforting. Current federal law allows a tax credit if you are considering the purchase of an electric car.

Electric Car Statistics
Electric cars can operate for approximately 300,000 miles before wearing out. This is because they use a motor instead of an engine. They cost approximately the same amount as a gasoline powered vehicle yet you save the cost of the gasoline over the life of the vehicle. The cars can travel for 80 miles off a single charge which only takes 2 to 3 hours. The cars are no less spacious than gasoline powered cars and they have airconditioning, heat, and other comforts.

What is the industry doing?
Toyota is creating the Prius, which is a top of the line electric vehicle already available in the Japanese market. General Motors has two electric cars, one still in the concept stage, and a no frills model available now. Nissan has the Nissain, an electric vehicle that will be available for purchase around 2003. Mazda is working on a hydrogen fuel cell car that is similar to other electric cars, except this car's emissions will be water!
